READING PLUS® LAUNCHES INTERNATIONAL SILENT READING NORM STUDY
Taylor Associates, award-winning producer of Reading Plus®, the premier web-based silent reading intervention, today announced it will conduct an international silent reading norm study involving thousands of students from elementary, secondary, and post-secondary schools worldwide.
In announcing the comprehensive study, Alex Spichtig, Director of Research for Taylor Associates, said, “This landmark research will establish new silent reading norms as well as evaluate changes that have occurred in reading efficiency performances since the first and only large-scale study of silent reading efficiency performance involving 12,000 students was conducted in the 1960s by Taylor, Frackenpohl, and Pettee.”
Ms. Spichtig added, “Schools that participate in this research study will be contributing invaluable information to the educational community about current comprehension-based silent reading performance. We are honored to have a study advisory board that includes some of academia’s leading reading experts.”
As part of the study, data will be gathered with the Visagraph® eye-movement recording system, an innovative tool that provides unique insight into students’ silent reading behavior. A Visagraph® assessment identifies and records the “unseen and unheard” visual, perceptual, and cognitive functions of silent reading.
Reading Plus® is a web-based reading intervention system that uses innovative technology to provide individualized scaffolded silent reading practice for students in primary and secondary schools as well as at the post-secondary level. The Reading Plus® system, designed in alignment with current reading research, develops and improves students’ independent reading proficiency by providing extensive engagement in high-success, differentiated reading activities.
