READING PLUS®, THE LEADING SILENT READING FLUENCY INTERVENTION, WINS PRESTIGIOUS 2010 BESSIE AWARD
Taylor Associates, a leader in education technology, today announced that Reading Plus®, the company’s silent reading fluency intervention system, has been named a winner in the 16th Annual Best Educational Software Awards (BESSIES) Program. Reading Plus® is the recipient of the 2010 BESSIE in the Multi-Level Reading category.
“Reading Plus® is honored to receive this prestigious BESSIE award,” said Mark Taylor, chief executive officer of Taylor Associates. “The company is proud to be recognized in the educational software industry for its effective multi-level approach to improving silent reading fluency for struggling readers in second grade and higher.”
Reading Plus® is a web-based reading intervention system that uses innovative technology to provide individualized scaffolded silent reading practice for students in primary and secondary schools as well as at the post-secondary level. The Reading Plus® system, designed in alignment with current reading research, develops and improves reading proficiency by providing extensive engagement in high-success, differentiated reading activities.
“Reading Plus® enhances silent reading skills for students at all levels,” Mr. Taylor said. "Our system's scaffolded, leveled activities rapidly improve reading rates and comprehension, and develop silent reading proficiency. Students who can read proficiently are independent, confident learners who excel in the classroom, perform well on high-stakes tests, and are college- and career-ready. We are thrilled that ComputEd has recognized our product and its role in transforming struggling readers into independent learners."
For 16 years, ComputED Gazette, published by the ComputED Learning Center, has sponsored the Best Educational Software Awards. Companies from around the world submitted entries for the award, which targets “content-rich programs and websites that provide teachers with the technology to foster educational excellence.” Selection is based on academic content, potential for broad classroom use, technical merit, subject approach, and management system.
