Visagraph® III
Silent Reading Assessment System

The Visagraph® III is an objective measurement system used for recording and evaluating reading efficiency (fluency) and effectiveness. In minutes, a detailed analysis of an individual’s reading performance can be generated. The Visagraph® III provides a comparison of measurements in relation to Taylor’s National Grade Level Normative Data and Goals, as well as recommendations as to Reading Plus® programs that improve reading capability. The Visagraph® can be used for ongoing assessments during a Reading Plus® course of study, or a vision therapy program, to provide unique insights into the physical, perceptual and cognitive skills that determine the ease and comfort with which one reads.

The Visagraph® III is the latest development from Taylor, spanning 70 years, beginning with the Opthalmograph, later the Reading Eye I and II and the Visagraph® I and II. The College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) supports the objective evaluation of the eye movements involved in reading by instrumentation such as the Taylor Visagraph®.

How it Works
An examiner places the goggles on a student’s head and adjusts them in relation to the student’s pupils. The student then reads a short selection from a test booklet and answers questions to determine his/her comprehension. Simulation of a student’s eye-movements over text, multiple reports and data presentations are then auto-generated. These provide insight as to the foundational visual and perceptual skills that determine the ease, comfort and efficiency with which a student reads. If the student is engaged in a Reading Plus® course of study, multiple recordings can be taken as various milestones are reached to document the changes that are taking place in these foundational skills.

Visagraph Features

Normative Tests and Data
Only the Visagraph® III provides 97 grade level selections, which were used in a Norm Study™ with 12,000 students ranging from grades 1 through college to establish reading efficiency normative data.

Non-Reading Tests
For non-readers a Numbers tracking test and a Visual Skills test can be administered to determine adequacy of visual/functional skills.

Online, Network or Standalone
The Visagraph® III offers greater flexibility to users who need to generate recordings from various workstations or laptops. Online delivery of the Visagraph® software allows you to connect the Visagraph® III hardware to any workstation with internet access and generate recordings or access existing records. Over time, Taylor will provide access to national and regional norm databases that will allow users to compare data with other users in similar regions or with similar students (Special Ed/Title One). LAN delivery allows multiple computers on a single network to connect and share a single database. The application can also be run from a standard laptop or workstation independent of a network or internet connection.

Refined Student Management
The Visagraph® III system provides enhanced management and reporting features that makes it easy to track progress of students over the course of a remediation program.

Integrated into Reading Plus®
Although the Visagraph® III can function completely independently of Reading Plus®, users can take full advantage of the integration between this assessment and the Reading Plus® instructional programs, whether working on a local area network or online.
